The September meeting focused on issues relating to Board's wider engagement in and with the city's communities, in the context of Board's aim to foster a more inclusive local economy.
Paul Harvey, Volunteer Centre Manager at Voluntary Action Sheffield set out the definition and scope, as well as the benefits for individuals and society, of volunteering. Paul's presentation can be viewed here: Developing a strategic approach to volunteering
Gareth Roberts, Director and Operations Manager of Regather gave an update around creating a resilient system for urban food production across Sheffield and the city region. Helen Nicol, Director of Blue Chula Ltd then set out the vision for ‘Regather Land’ which plans to develop a community benefit society to grow the economy by developing a more productive landscape, improve the resilience and sustainability of the local food system, raise awareness of nutrition and enable greater access to the land for Sheffield citizens. Adele Robinson, Social Justice and Inclusive Manager at Sheffield City Council explained the purpose, development and remit of the equality hub network. Martin Hughes, Locality Team Manager from Sheffield City Council gave an update on local engagement and networks within the city.
